Spaghetti with Meat Sauce
Here is a great classic spaghetti recipe that is great for picky kids!
Servings: 6 Adults
Author: Poor Doctor's Wife (Adapted from family recipe)
- ½ onion. chopped
- ½ lb ground beef or Italian or hot Sausage
- 1 carrot, peeled
- 1 15oz can tomato sauce original recipe uses 28oz. can
- 1 Tbsp dry Basil
- ½ tsp Nutmeg
- 1 can diced tomatoes or can diced Fire Roasted tomatoes adds more flavor
- 2 Tbsp butter optional
- ¾ 14.5oz package of thin spaghetti (16 oz) or use spiraled zucchini (just sauté in pan)
- Salt and Pepper to Taste I usually add a tsp or more
- Red Pepper Flakes (optional but it shouldn't be)
Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Cook thin Spaghetti according to package instructions. Drain.
In a large pan, sauté onion in a little olive oil until translucent. Add beef and cook until brown and crumbly. Grate Carrot and cook for a minute. Add tomato sauce, basil, salt, and nutmeg. Simmer sauce on medium heat for about 10 min, stirring occasionally.
Optional: Stir in butter and remove from heat.
