A Cheap Vacation: Hiking Holy Cross Wilderness

We are on a detailed budget in order to pay off our student loans as quickly as possible. As we go along this debt-free journey, we have to find ways to enjoy and celebrate life. Surprisingly (to common belief), this doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. Sure, a trip to Hawaii would be really awesome but that’s not in the cards in this season of life. Naturally, the next best thing: go backpacking in beautiful Colorado! Yes! We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful place and it’s fairly easy to explore. Backpacking opposed to camping also saves you money on food because you have to carry your food. Thus, you’re not splurging on food because carrying extra weight is not fun. Luckily, I also have a very outdoorsy husband and so he made this whole experience so fun.

If you find yourself on a similar journey to us, I hope you can find cheap ways to have fun and make memories. Of course, I believe getting out of debt is important and a honorable goal but even if life is busy and hard, we have to take time to enjoy the life we have.

False: Paying off Debt= No FUN!

Dave Ramsey says if you’re paying off debt, which is baby step 2, you “have no life”. Here’s the deal Dave, I respectfully disagree. Sure, when you pay off debt for just a year or so, it’s totally fine to just work, work, work and that’s it. But we started this journey in 2018 and so we need to enjoy the journey and that means occasionally planning for fun and creating memories, albeit inexpensive memories.
